How to boost your metabolism and improve your energy while pregnant and immediately after having your baby.
While pregnant and especially if also choosing to breast feed a baby the demands on a women’s body are enormous. One of the main reasons why a women’s metabolism reduces after pregnancy which can make it difficult to lose the “baby weight” is due to the fact that women can become quite protein deficient. How to boost your metabolism and improve your energy while pregnant and immediately after having your baby.
There is a huge requirement of many nutrients but especially protein in order to produce a baby. If you are not eating enough or absorbing the protein that you’re eating (and this is surprisingly common) then the body will break down the mother’s muscle tissue to get the protein to nourish the baby. This means that a mother’s muscle mass to fat mass ratio reduces and this lower’s the overall metabolism. Muscle tissue is the body’s most metabolically active tissue which means that these cells burn the most energy (fat, protein and sugar).
At the end of a pregnancy if you have less muscle tissue than you did at the beginning then you will find it more difficult to lose weight. The other important aspect of having low availability of protein is that energy levels both mental and physical can be reduced. This certainly contributes to the low mood that many women experience in the months after pregnancy.
One of the simplest ways to ensure adequate protein availability and an easy boost in metabolism and energy is to take a well absorbed low allergenic protein powder of approx 20-30 gm a day. There are very good quality organic bio-fermented sprouted rice protein powders available. Some of the high quality ones also have added alkalinising minerals such as magnesium and calcium as well as fermented organic super greens (ie spirulina and chlorella etc) that provide the added extra benefits of probiotics, live enzymes and phytonutrients.
This simple strategy of a daily protein shake can provide not only much needed energy and nutrition to Mum and baby but also helps the body to recover strength and muscle tone more quickly after each pregnancy. Due to the improved energy from the protein it also makes it much easier to have the motivation to get back into exercise and maximises the muscle strengthening effect from your exercise efforts that raises the metabolism and fat burning ability of the body.
